‘A Walk Through Manipur’ is the outcome of the trip of a Kolkata based journalist, translator, freelancer Biswajit Manna to agitated Manipur. The book tries to do justice to the fact that Manipur, especially at the phase that it finds itself in, needs empathetic attention. The problems are myriad, generational but not something that cannot be taken care of. Manna took a short trip to Manipur during the 2023 ethnic clashes that broke out throughout the state. The clashes between the Meities and the Kukis reached its acme when women from one faction were paraded naked on the streets and eventually raped and murdered. This shook the nation and then some eyes turned towards the state. One such eye was Manna’s. He had the courage to travel to the disturbed area, stay and meet people in the refugee camps. He gives a loyal picture of what he saw during his stay there. He tries to turn more eyes towards the simmering issues at play. He hopes that people can return to their homes and start living, not just existing in camps.
